Our History
Kingstree Federal Savings & Loan Association was established March 12, 1926 as a state chartered savings association with the name Mutual Building & Loan Association. In February 1937, an application was submitted to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Winston Salem requesting the bank be granted a federal charter and name change to Kingstree Federal Savings & Loan Association. The bank operated in an office at 119 N. Academy Street, Kingstree, SC.
In early 1971, discussions began concerning the need for a new facility. A site at the corner of E. Mill Street and Academy Street was chosen. At the time a fruit stand had been operating at this address. On May 13, 1971 a building committee was organized to research plan designs and a prospective builder. Plans were presented and reviewed with the Board of Directors November of 1971 and a vote was then held authorizing management to enter into a contract for construction. Construction began January 1972 and the move to the new facility was completed in May 1972.
Kingstree Federal Savings & Loan Association operates as a mutual savings association, meaning we do not have stockholders. Our depositors are the owners of the bank. We provide financing for real estate needs and a variety of savings products to our customers.
